Note there are other all black, red-eyed birds in Australia; Spangled Drongos are easily distinguished by their forked tails, the Trumpet Manucode occurs only on Cape York, and Glossy Starlings are similar in colour but only half the size of a Koel which is quite a big bird.(41 cm long). The Spangled Drongo is a medium-sized songbird found in parts of Australia, Southeast Asia, and the western Pacific. Adult Spangled Drongos have predominantly glossy black plumage with distinctive iridescent spangles on their wings and tail, which shimmer in the sunlight. They have red eyes and a deeply forked tail.
